WS-214 Advanced Watchmakers Lathe

Course dates: Saturday and Sunday, May 10 - 11, 2008

The watchmakers or jewelers lathe is a versatile machine central to the art of watch repair.  In the hands of an experienced horologist its potential is limitless.  This 2 day hands on workshop will demonstrate some of the advanced techniques involved in using the lathe.  Some of the topics that will be discussed include:

  • Set up and use of the tailstock
  • Set up and use of the cross slide
  • The three jaw chuck
  • Turning between centers
  • Cutting gears
  • Methods of re-pivoting

This workshop is for the advanced student or experienced watchmaker.  All tools and materials will be supplied but the student is encouraged to bring their own lathe.  This workshop will allow the student to explore the potential of the lathe and to address specific problems.

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30.  This includes two 15 minute breaks and 1½ hours for lunch.

For additional information contact Katie Knaub at the NAWCC School of Horology: 717-684-8261, ext. 237.
