WS-208 Watch Case Restoration

Course dates: Saturday and Sunday, October 18 - 19, 2008

Many old and vintage watches, while mechanically sound, have serious problems with their cases.  This two day workshop will introduce the participant to the methods and techniques used in restoring and refinishing watch cases. Topics will include:

  • Identification of case material
  • Basic case repair
  • Polishing compounds and polishing tools
  • Scratch removal
  • Polishing techniques
  • Void repair in gold filled cases
  • Hinge repair
  • Overview of supply houses
  • Review of reference material

This is a hand on workshop that will teach the basic methods of restoration and repair of watch cases.  While the workshop is structured for the beginner with little or no experience more advanced students are welcome.  All materials and equipment will be provided but the student is welcome to bring their own watches.

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30.  This includes two 15 minute breaks and 1½ hours for lunch.

For additional information contact Katie Knaub at the NAWCC School of Horology: 717-684-8261, ext. 237.
