WS-121: Introduction to Servicing the Verge Fusee Pocket Watch

Course Dates: May 3-4, 2008

The verge fusee pocket watch has long held a special place in the hearts of watch collectors.  These intriguing and fascinating examples of the horologist’s art present some unique problems.  This 2-day workshop will introduce students to the basic methods and techniques in servicing these watches.  Some of the topics covered will include:

  • Basic theory of how it works
  • Nomenclature
  • The fusee
  • The escapement
  • Disassembly
  • Cleaning
  • Re-assembly and lubricating
  • Trouble shooting
  • Preservation and care

This is a hands-on workshop open to all, but, a basic understanding of horological tools and their use is helpful.  All materials and tools will be supplied, but students may bring their own watches.

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This includes two 15-minute breaks and 1½ hours for lunch.

For additional information contact Katie Knaub at the NAWCC School of Horology: 717-684-8261, ext. 237.
