WS-121: Introduction to Servicing the Verge Fusee Pocket Watch
Course Dates: May 3-4, 2008
The verge fusee pocket watch has long held a special place in the
hearts of watch collectors. These intriguing and fascinating examples
of the horologist’s art present some unique problems. This 2-day
workshop will introduce students to the basic methods and techniques in
servicing these watches. Some of the topics covered will include:
- Basic theory of how it works
- Nomenclature
- The fusee
- The escapement
- Disassembly
- Cleaning
- Re-assembly and lubricating
- Trouble shooting
- Preservation and care
This is a hands-on workshop open to all, but, a basic understanding
of horological tools and their use is helpful. All materials and tools
will be supplied, but students may bring their own watches.
The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology on Saturday
and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This includes two 15-minute
breaks and 1½ hours for lunch.
