Lesson Plan

WS-107: How to Buy Watches or Clocks at Flea Markets & Marts

Course Dates: Sept 29, 2007;

This 1-day workshop will focus on approaches used in buying timepieces at flea markets and NAWCC Marts.  The class will be structured to help students come to an understanding of the economics and social interactions involved in flea markets and related venues.  Topics to be discussed include:

  • Where to find flea markets
  • What to look for at the markets
  • How to evaluate a timepiece
  • Some methods of detecting fakes or altered watches and clocks
  • How to bargain over price
  • A review of current reference material
  • Flea market etiquette

The workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  There will be two 15-minute breaks and a 1 1/2 hours lunch.

This is an introductory course structured for the beginner, but more advanced collectors are also welcome.
