WS-102: Wooden Clock Movement Repair
Course dates: August 9-10, 2008
Early American production clocks were made from wood which presents
unique problems for the clock repairer. This 2-day workshop will
instruct students in the proper techniques used in the repair of these
venerable nineteenth-century movements. Topics to be covered include:
- Proper cleaning methods
- Techniques in rebushing
- Verge adjustment
- Pivot repair and
replacement
- Tooth repair and
replacement
Data also will be furnished to enable students to identify the
manufacturer of their woodworks movement.
Students are welcome to bring their own wooden movements, but
those who do not have their own movements may borrow one from the
instructor. All other course materials will be furnished.
It should be noted that improper repair of these movements can
greatly affect their value.
