WS101 HOW TO REPAIR FUSEE CHAINS
Fusee movements have long held a fascination for watch and clock
collectors. These marvelous examples of ingenuity and craftsmanship
present some very unique problems. One of the most common problems
encountered is a broken or missing chain. This workshop will
concentrate on the repair and replacement of these chains. Some of the topics covered will be:
- Cleaning and maintaining the chain
- Link design and construction
- Link replacement
- Link fabrication
- Chain hook construction
- Hook replacement
- Hook fabrication
- Proper chain length
The class is structured towards the beginner as well as the advanced
collector. There is no pre-requisite but knowledge of the fusee
movement and how it works is helpful.
The one day workshop will be held at the NAWCC School of Horology.
All tools and materials will be supplied although the participants are
welcome to bring their own chains for repair.
The workshop will be conducted from 8:30 to 4:30. This includes two
15 minute breaks and 1 1/2 hours for lunch.
The only material covered in this workshop has to do with the chain
in fusee movements. General servicing of the fusee timepiece will be
the subject of additional workshops.
