About the Cover

The front cover features engraved tools made and used by the Star Watch Case Company of Ludington, MI. The tools on the cover are part of a collection donated to the Watch and Clock Museum by Dimitry Grabbe of Middletown, PA. Jack Linahan's article about the Star Watch Case Co., which includes factory photos from Mr. Grabbe, starts on page 4 in this issue. A photo of the "toolmakers" is included in the article. According to Mr. Grabbe, who visited the factory in order to understand its processes, the toolmakers were artisans with remarkable skill, a claim that the cover images certainly validate.
