About the Cover

On the front cover, with the Georgia State Capital dome as background, is the astronomical E. Howard tall-case clock, restored by members of Atlanta Chapter 24. Ca 1870, the model 22 regulator was once the standard for the Western & Atlantic Railroad. Fully restored, it resides in a place of honor in the Georgia State Capital building in Atlanta, just outside the governor's office. See the article on page 181 for the clock's history, a brief description of its restoration, as well as the dedication ceremony in October 1998 when the clock was officially returned to the State of Georgia. Photo by Hallie Edwards, Photographer, Georgia House of Representatives.
