  About the Cover

The Diego Evans musical bracket clock shown on the front cover is part of the J. Bryson and Mary Louis Moore Collection at the National Watch and Clock Museum®. like many of his contemporaries, David Evans made clocks specially for trade in foreign countries. This musical clock (32" H x 16.5 W x 11.75" D) was made in London, England, ca 1785, for the Spanish market. The dial features Spanish wording and the name Diego, rather than David, Evans. Special featuries of the eight-day brass movement include a calendar fubction and an accompanying nest of thirteen bells that can play six melodies. Gilded brass ornaments decorate the mahogany case.
