About the Cover
The
front cover features a collage of four O’Hara Dial Company dial products
in front of company factory images. From left to right the dials
include: an enameled clock dial for a tandem winding clock, a 16S watch
dial for a New England Watch Co. Tuxedo watch, a 16S dial for a Trenton
Watch Co. watch, and a 1872 gold case with photo images on the case and
dial.
In the background we find, starting from the top left,
the enamel grinding area and dial painting department. The middle row
from the left features the furnace room where the dials were fired and
the dial inspection area.
The bottom row starts from the left with an image of the
punching operation area and next to that is an image of the laboratory
where the various chemicals were prepared. The gentlemen at the bottom
right created the etched and engraved plates used in the factory’s
intaglio offset printing process.
