At the set time, a lever strikes the sandpaper against the matches. An arm swings the matches 180 degrees to light the small oil lamp on the top of the clock. The brightened room will then wake the sleeper. Owners simply had to beware accidentally burning their house down as they slept. Donated by Mrs. Margaret Clay and family in memory of Henry L. Clay, NAWCC #4238 |
