Just like a pendulum, the hairspring on the balance wheel of a timepiece must be regulated to ensure accurate timekeeping. The timepiece is adjusted by means of a regulator lever. When moved in one direction, this lever lengthens the active portion of the spring, slowing the timepiece; when moved in the other direction, it shortens the active portion of the spring, accelerating the timepiece. When visiting the Museum you can visit this display and push a button to activate both balance wheels simultaneously. Then by using the regulator lever, try to match the rate of the top balance wheel with that of the master balance wheel below. |
