Farcot made this large timepiece for display at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876. The pendulum suspended from the hand of the statue regulates the clock. Instead of the more typical motion of side to side, the swing of this conical pendulum traces the form of a cone. Farcot received patents for conical pendulums in 1865 and 1872. The movement of this clock runs for fifteen days and strikes ting-tang quarter hours. The silvered bronze statue is signed A. Carrier. G. Hiot and Company of Paris produced the onyx pedestal.
