Isaac Brokaw (1746-1826) was an apprentice to Aaron Miller of Elizabethtown, one of New Jersey's early clockmakers and brass founders. Brokaw married his master's daughter, Elizabeth, in 1766, and returned to his native Hillsborough Township to practice his trade. Upon Miller's death in 1779, Brokaw returned to Elizabethtown and continued at Miller's old shop until about 1789. Eventually Browkaw moved to Bridgetown, where he produced this eight-day, weight-driven clock. Isaac trained his three sons; John (b. 1767), Aaron (1768-1853), and Cornelius (1772-1857). He worked in Bridgetown until his retirement in 1816. Donated by Warner D. Bundens, Jr., FNAWCC #1177 |
