Tallcase Clock, c1770
Thomas Mudge, Sr.
London, England al

Although Thomas Mudge (1715-1794) is best known for his marine chronometer work and credited with the invention of the lever escapement that was common to many mechanical watches, he also made tallcase clocks.

The bonnet of this example is a fully developed (convex) "pagoda" top. It is missing its center plinth and accompanying side crestings. The eight-day brass movement has a recoil escapement and strikes on the hour.
