Educational Programs for Students


Deepen the educational impact of your field trip.  Many program options are available for you and your students.  Each option leads you to a different discovery.  Choose the one that is right for your class and your field trip goals.


Teacher self-directed museum visit
Grades K-12
Cost $4.00 per student
Suggested Length: 1 to 2 hours

Through this program teachers create their own visit to the museum. A Teacher’s Guide to the Museum is available for purchase upon request. 

 


Museum Scavenger Hunt
Grades 1-8
Cost $5.00 per student
Suggested Length: 1 to 2 hours

Teachers choose from several scavenger hunts available to assist their students in viewing the exhibits. A Teacher’s Guide to the Museum is available for purchase upon request. 

 


Inventors in Time
Grades 4-8
Cost $5.00 per student
Pre-visit material included
Length: 1 ½ to 2 hours

Benjamin Banneker and John Harrison are two historical figures whose individual ingenuity shaped the scientific technology of their times. Through this program students will learn about the lives of these two men, their personal struggles, and their achievements. As part of the museum visit, students will apply their knowledge of these two figures through a team-based inventing competition, where they will work together to invent a new methods of timekeeping. A corresponding scavenger hunt is included.

From Egyptians to Native Americans, all cultures developed ways of timekeeping that was conducive to their lifestyle. This program encourages students to learn about the different timekeeping methods developed and how the concept of time relates to everything that we do. As part of the museum visit, students will create some of the early timekeeping devices. A corresponding scavenger hunt is included.


Animal Shape and Find
Grades K-2
Cost $5.00 per student

Length: 1 ½ to 2 hours

  • Science: 3.1, 3.3
  • Mathematics: 2.1, 2.9

Shapes are found in everything, whether in nature or in objects in the classroom. This program encourages students to seek out and identify a variety of shapes within the museum’s exhibits.  It is an interactive and fun way for younger students to view and learn through the exhibits. As part of the museum visit, students will engage in a scavenger hunt of shapes and animals found within the exhibits.


Simple Machines
Grades 3-8,
Cost $5.00 per student

  • Science: 3.2, 3.4, 3.7, 3.8

  • Arts and Humanities: 9.1
  • History: 8.4

Simple and compound machines are used every day. Machines make daily tasks easier to complete. Most objects are compound machines, made up of a combination of the six basic simple machines. As part of the students’ museum visit, they will apply their understanding of simple and compound machines through a team-based activity, utilizing examples found in the museum to create a solution to a given problem. A corresponding scavenger hunt is included.
