School of Horology
What is the School of Horology?
The School of Horology, officially opened in 1995 and is located
at the Association’s world headquarters at the National Watch &
Clock Museum in Columbia, PA. The School is a vocational institution
licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools
and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools
and Colleges of Technology - ACCSCT.
What is offered at the School of Horology?
Watch & Clock Programs
Programs in both watch and clock repair are available. Both
programs are designed with the beginner in mind and progress to more
advanced stages and technologies. Graduates of these programs, fully
equipped with knowledgeable skills in the art of watch and clock
repair, can expect to attain at least an entry-level position in
their field. The School has fully equipped class/lab rooms for clock
and watch repair classes. There are workbenches in each classroom
that are furnished with the necessary tools and materials needed
during each class.
Clock repair courses include Chime Clock Repair, Day and Cuckoo
Clocks, Antique Long Case and Fusee Clocks, Wooden Clock Repair,
Platform Escapements, etc. Watch repair courses include Staffing,
Jewelling, Escapements, Hairsprings, Wristwatches, Battery Watches,
Repair Problems, Horological Lathes, etc.
The NAWCC School of Horology continues in the tradition of
training watchmakers and clockmakers by offering a complete
horological repair program. Combining the Watch Repair and Clock
Repair Programs, this program takes 56 weeks to complete.
Specialty Courses & Avocational Programs for the Hobbyist
The School of Horology also provides specialty courses and
avocational programs for the hobbyist. These courses include
Reverse Painting on Glass, Clock Case Restoration, etc. Although
school certificates and diplomas are not available for these
courses, you can become more knowledgeable in specific areas
pertaining to your own horological interests and passions.
